Are Three-Dimensional Digital Tools Changing the Boundaries of Sculpture or Are They Creating a New Category of Art?

Over the ages, artists of all types have taken advantage of advancements in technology to produce their work. From early cave drawings to the Sistine Chapel to the Lord of the Rings movies, the evolution of how we use imagery to tell stories is constantly evolving. Computers and the Internet have revolutionized music, entertainment, and photography, causing huge shifts in the creative process and the distribution and appreciation of finished work. As new technologies become common in the creative process, artists become able to consistently achieve higher levels of technical precision. While the bar will continue to rise on technical perfection, it is still the artist’s vision and choices that will separate great works of art from lesser ones.
